Mission Email- Week 3 (Chispas)
¡Hola amigos y familia!
I hope you all had a wonderful week! Not much has happened this week but I'm having a lot of fun at the CCM.
The days are pretty repetitive, lots of classes, workshops and devotionals but they are all so good! On Saturday the power in our apartment was out. When it turned back on later in the night we all got excited, started blow drying our hair and blew a fuse.
Church is pretty much "the reaping" from Hunger Games. We all sit in our districts and the Bishop gets up and assigns four random missionaries to come give a talk. IN SPANISH. Luckily I made it through last week, but you never know. I could be giving a talk next Sunday. It was also Hermana Scott's birthday on Sunday and we had a really good devotional with our district about the Atonement of Jesus Christ.
Yesterday I went to the immigration center in Mexico City and good news! I'm officially legal!! We did end up having to wait for 5 hours in the courtyard of the Immigration center but honestly it was a lot of fun! I talked with some Latinas for 2 hours and they said I have a really good Spanish accent! I also walked through the streets a little and I realized how blonde I am.
Pensamiento Espiritual:
Last night I was reading through a journal that I kept during my fall semester at BYU-I. I came across this one devotional given by David Ashby about adventure. It made me think a lot about this adventure that I'm on right now. Some things that he said that I liked are,
-Real adventure helps us build courage.
-Watching somone run a marathon isn't the same as running one.
-Practice being uncomfortable.
-Be teachable
-Trust the process
-Be brave enough to be bad at something new.
I really like that last point. I am really bad a Spanish but I am choosing to be brave enough to be bad at it. I encourage each of you to do something that you are bad at. Also ask yourself if you are choosing to have the adventures that God has in store for you? We like to feel comfortable but if there is one thing that I have learned these last 3 weeks it is that growth and change only happen when we are uncomfortable.
Love you all so much!
Hermana Smith
